For his effort, Chapman's sexual battery case disappeared. He later recanted his testimony and in 2009 he apologized personally to Dillon.The four men identified as suspects just a few years ago remain free even though one of the men told investigators what happened the night Dvorak was killed at Canova Beach. A special prosecutor looked at the case but the statute of limitations had run out on just about everything except a first-degree murder charge. He was granted a new trial before the state dropped all charges, saying it would be too difficult to prove the case all these years later. A year later, a Brevard County Sheriff's Office investigation exonerated Dillon completely and identified four suspects — one of which was a perfect DNA match to the test results from the shirt.Dillon would not be spending another Thanksgiving in prison."Thanksgiving is not anything special in there, of course not," he said. "They don't make it anything special.

He used that stage on Friday nights to sell his mobile homes really. And she dropped her baton, and I won the contest.
And he goes, my names says my name is John Schweers. And he goes are you Dean Dillon. I don't know, maybe a month later, I'm sitting back there one day writing, and this guy walks up. And I would sit back there at a picnic table with my guitar and write songs. I didn't know where music row was, but I found out soon enough.DILLON: Well, my big break - I was sitting backstage in between shows at Opryland.
And I played him a couple of songs. He wrote a lot of things for just a lot of different country acts. And I knew who John Schweers was.

And he opened his desk drawer and pulled out a three-page contract and said I want to sign you to a publishing deal. I played him two or three songs. And he said play me something. Walked in his office, shook and howdy, and sat down in front of his desk.
